Frequently Asked Questions
We are often asked a lot of questions by prospective clients about our website design and search engine optimisation services. If you don’t see the questions you want answering then make sure you contact us.
If you already have a logo and the content (words and pictures) to go on your website, it will take approximately two weeks to build you a new website. A new logo will take about a week if starting from scratch and would need to be done first, as this provides the colours that will be used on the website. We often find that writing the words to go on the website often take longer than expected but we would provide guidance on this.
All of our websites are designed from the outset to work on all mobiles, tablets, PCs, Macs and TVs. This is quite a challenge given that the screen sizes vary enormously. This technique is known as responsive website design and is a must in today’s online environment. To see it in action make your browser screen smaller or larger, or if you are viewing on a mobile/tablet try rotating your screen and see what happens.
After building your website, we submit it to Google and would expect it to appear within search results in a couple of days. It does take time to improve the performance of listing and is not something that can happen over night. As we also specialise in search engine optimisation (SEO), we can give you guidance on what works best or even do some advanced SEO for you.
We have a lot experience building websites (more than 12 years in the game) and believe we offer a top quality product at a good price. A good website takes time to be crafted and you definitely get what you pay for. What makes us unique is the fact we are web designers and search engine optimisation specialists, so we can incorporate these features while we build your new website. On top of this we can provide you with tailor made instructional videos so you can take control of your website and update it with ease.
Having been a start up business we know what it takes to make a go of it and can also offer advice on general marketing, business plans, accounting etc. We like to think of a website as an additional employee that is promoting you or your company 24/7.
All of our new websites come with an email account built in. You can have as many email accounts as you want, but this may require extra hosting space. We would show you how to setup your email account on your mobile, tablet, desktop PC or Mac.
We would look to develop your new look website on a development server that only you would have access to. This would mean your existing website would still be live until you are happy with the new one. At that point we would make the switch and make your new website live reducing the amount of time your website is offline to a few minutes. As the existing website already has the content (words and pictures), typically a website makeover takes less time to complete than a completely new website.
We are more than happy to help you design a logo. Normally we would provide three concepts and then develop your favourite. We would also create you a bespoke colour palette of 3 to 5 colours that will be used on your website. We can also send your logo in the required format for printing or embroidery.
We use the WordPress CMS and Joomla CMS to build our websites, which basically means it is very easy to change the words and pictures on your website provided you have a basic knowledge of word processing. We would create a bespoke set of How-to videos for you that show you how to do the edits and updates yourself. Many of our clients have found this to be a great way to learn how to take control of their website.
There are three main costs associated with a new website. Firstly, the website address or domain name would need to be leased. This is typically £10/year but depends on the name chosen. Secondly, the website will need to be hosted by a suitable hosting company. Depending on the size of your website and email account this would cost anywhere from £65-£250 a year. Finally, there is the cost of the website design and build itself, this would start at £499 for a modest six page website.
A good website address (known as a URL or domain name) is vital for being found easily online and making your website easy to remember. If you haven’t already bought your domain name, we can advise you on what options would be best for you.
We can help resolve most problems over the phone or via email. For more complex support we would provide an instructional video. Should you want your website to have additional features or have large modifications made we can also do that and will happily provide a quote for the work.
No website is 100% secure against an attack from a determined hacker. However, we employ a multitude of techniques to reduce the vulnerability of our websites. Our hosting provider use advanced firewall rules, we then add another software firewall to the website itself. All of our websites are monitored 24/7 and alert us if they are attacked. Finally, we take daily backups of each website and email account, so that should the worst happen, we can quickly restore your website and get it back online as soon as possible.
This isn’t a problem, we would look to get your logo designed and then create a holding page that shows your website is under construction. Alternatively we can build a one page website that has a contact form and some basic content and look to expand it at a later date. We would also get your email account up and running at the same time.
This literally takes minutes once the hosting package has been bought and we will provide comprehensive instructions on how to get started.
In the digital age it isn’t necessary to meet face to face to complete a project. We haven’t physically met over half of our clients and don’t see this as a problem. That said, we do like to meet face-to-face if the opportunity arises!
In short- yes! We use the incredibly popular WooCommerce system which powers nearly a third of all online eCommerce websites. It works seamlessly with a WordPress website and can accept multiple payment gateways, calculate shipping costs, print labels and work out your tax! Although the base programme is free, it does require a lot of configuration to get it just right.
