HTML Sitemap

Welcome to our HTML Sitemap. As well as being able to access our HTML Sitemap we thought it might be worth explaining why we even have one

What purpose does an HTML Sitemap have?

There are two reasons why it is good practice to have an HTML Sitemap.  Firstly, it provides a simple layout to visitors who may wish to explore our website in detail without using the navigation bar at the top of our website.  Secondly, it provides a link to every page on our website which may help improve the SEO properties.

HTML Sitemap or XML Sitemap?

The HTML Sitemap differs from our XML Sitemap which is primarily for search engine crawlers.  We have tried to make our HTML Sitemap easy to use and have grouped all of our portfolio in to one easy to read list.

Common questions about HTML Sitemaps

An HTML sitemap is a standalone page on a website which lists every page on a website.  You can usually find a link to the HTML Sitemap in the footer of a properly designed website.

This is a mildly controversial statement as opinions are divided about whether an HTML Sitemap really helps the SEO of your website.  We believe that having one doesn’t harm your website and help a search engine crawler visit pages on your website that it may have missed.

Of course, the HTML Sitemap is primarily for humans, if the HTML Sitemap helps them find what they are looking for then they are spending more time on your website and in the eyes of Google this means your website must be worth a visit.  This in turn helps your SEO.

In short – no.  An XML Sitemap is for search engines and an HTML Sitemap is for humans.

An XML Sitemap presents your website layout to a search engine with information such as when the page was created, how important each page and how often the page should be visited.  All of this information isn’t really that useful to a visitor and is actually quite tricky to read.

Creating an HTML Sitemap is a fairly straightforward process.

WordPress

There are many plugins available that can generate an HTML Sitemap, we like Simple Sitemap as it is really simple to setup and add to your website.  If you use Elementor then an HTML Sitemap is already included simply paste in the widget and hey presto.

Other Websites

If you have a website that isn’t WordPress then there are many websites that will generate an HTML Sitemap for you such as My Sitemap Generator. You simply upload the new HTML Sitemap to your website.  Admittedly this is a little bit more fiddly and you may need to seek guidance from a reputable web designer.
